Labora achieves recertification as a B Corporation, proving commitment to social impact

The year 2023 began with great news at Labora. In early January, we achieved recertification as a B Corporation, granted by B Lab, a nonprofit organization based in the United States that has been certifying companies that make a positive social and environmental impact since 2006.

This reaffirms our commitment to transforming the world and generating positive social impact.

“We created Labora from the understanding that the labor market is changing drastically, and working conditions are deteriorating. Thus, we created a B Corporation that generates positive social impact, developing technology so that work becomes synonymous with well-being, social inclusion, and income for millions of talents. As a result, we offer differentiated services and outcomes for our client companies, foster a community of over 40,000 professionals in constant development, and generate a virtuous cycle of positive social impact.”

Sérgio Serapião, CEO and Founder of Labora

What is the B Certification?

With market transformations in recent years, there has been increased attention to social and environmental issues within companies. To stand out, it is necessary to focus not only on profits but also on the social and environmental development of communities and to seek solutions to the problems surrounding these scenarios. In our previous blog article, we discussed this further; you can access it here!

It was with this in mind that the American NGO B Lab created a tool that assesses companies every three years, balancing purpose and profit. This evaluation analyzes corporate management and governance practices systematically, considering relationships with suppliers, employees, communities, the environment, and business models.

This is one of the most respected certifications granted to companies committed to using their business model for good and generating benefits for society as a whole. The UN Global Compact has joined B Lab, making the B Impact Assessment a standard for managing SDGs in companies.

Furthermore, major investment funds are eyeing impact-certified companies and using B Lab’s tool for this purpose.

The Scope of Certification

First and foremost, it is essential to clarify that even companies with excellent ESG practices may take months to years to become certified. The certification process begins with the “B Impact Assessment” and goes through seven additional steps. You can find all the details on how to become a B Corporation on the Sistema B Brasil website.

Sistema B Brasil has been a partner of B Lab since 2012, responsible for representing the B movement in Brazil, engaging, publicizing, and promoting the local ecosystem of impact companies in the country. Today, Sistema B Brasil has nearly 300 certified B companies in Brazil.
